241 Simcoe Street, Corner of South Street and Wellington Street

I’m Carol Mason-Taylor and I grew up at 316 South Street and I went to Governor Simcoe Public School that’s been torn down off of Simcoe Street. I guess the biggest thing in public school I remember is if you did have a dispute with somebody you met them on the corner at four o’clock. At the corner of South Street and Wellington street, there would be a fight, usually it wasn’t that dramatic. So if you’re smart enough, you leave at like 3:15 and get the heck outta there. You hung around girls, you didn’t really hang around the guys ‘cause we had two playgrounds. The one side was the girls and the other side were the boys, but you’d know the disputes within the girls and the girls were pretty feisty. They’d meet ya at the corner at four o’clock if you got in trouble with them. And of course, at that time we got the strap at school so that was a big thing. I’m not going to name but there’s one girl that was pretty always getting into trouble and having a fight. She was the one who always got the strap too.
